ONTERIORS INNOVATION HOME WINS “HOME OF THE YEAR”
AT ELECTRONIC HOUSE EXPO
Casa Futura’s energy efficiency and innovative
home technology also wins “Green Home” award
SAN DIEGO, Calif., March 17, 2008 – ONteriors™, a leading provider of home technology solutions including design, sales, installation and management services, has won Electronic House magazine’s third annual Home of the Year and Green Home of the Year awards, which were recently announced at the Electronic House Expo (EHX) in Orlando. The project was chosen out of more than 400 submissions from dealers nationwide and in Canada.
The home, called Casa Futura, was developed by San Diego-based AIA architect Kevin deFreitas and ONteriors to demonstrate what a residence in San Diego could look like in the year 2020, given San Diego’s population may increase by another million new residents and resources such as land, water and electricity could be in short supply. It is the first residential home to receive Gold Level status from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™. LEED is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.

ONteriors integrated leading technology from Sony, Control4, GE Security and others to provide built in entertainment, home control and security, all programmed to provide the best energy efficiency.
The home is equipped with four sleek, wall-mounted Sony BRAVIA® LCD TVs, which carry the Energy Star certification. The master bedroom and kid’s bonus room both have a Sony WallStation® DVD/CD that plays movies and music.
Casa Futura also features a Control4 advanced home control system featuring smart lighting, temperature control, entertainment and security. ONteriors programmed a variety of “scenes” for energy savings and a variety of lifestyle settings, including an “energy saver” scene which shuts off lights and air conditioning in rooms not activated by occupancy sensors; an “away” mode which arms the security system and turns off all interior lights and electricity supply to TVs, laser printers and personal computers; the “welcome home” mode which can be triggered by the garage door opener and lights a path from the garage into the main house, disarms the security system, turns on the kitchen lights and starts the welcome home MP3 music play list.
The functions of the home management system are accessible at the touch of a button from the Control4 system remote as well as wall mounted keypads throughout the home. In addition, the homeowner can log into their system via the internet to check the status of the security system and control the temperature and lights. A closed circuit camera system enables the family to view visitors at the front gate on televisions throughout the home and open the gate remotely. A GE security system is integrated with the Control4 home system and is programmed to issue alerts via email and a text message to deFreitas’ cell phone.
Features of the home include radiant floor heating, high-velocity ultra-efficient furnace, self-expanding foam insulation, solar roof, Energy Star appliances, natural ventilation that makes A/C unnecessary, automated window blinds, venting skylights, ultra-efficient LED lighting systems, smart irrigation systems that detect ground moisture and control water accordingly, and a system that captures and filters gray water for reuse in the drought-tolerant garden.
